We have had these number days fairly often and today is no exception. This time it’s my turn to announce one. I have a good reason for this as this small thing joined my yard recently.

It was temporarily stored in a forest by the former owner and when the picture was taken it had just been pushed off from the trailer. It looks now a lot cleaner but my camera was unwilling to give away any newer pictures today. It came with a very big amount of spares and even a rusty spare part car (sedan/berline).

Peugeot 204 is getting rare in Finland and I do believe that mine is the only Cabriolet. It was originally sold to Sweden and it was imported to Finland in late 90's. At his point it was extremely rusty and badly patched up. Now it’s doing a lot better but it has still some unfinished places. The rear wheel arches are the most problematic as they have been fixed but they look very asymmetrical.

A 605 with a V6 brought the Cabriolet to my yard as the purchase price included the delivery. The deal was actually a very good one as the former owner was very frustrated by his big amount of projects.

The spare part car is in quite horrible state but it has still plenty of usable parts to give. The rear axle seems to be doing better in that one.

Nice! I love these little things :) very stylish in a uniquely French/Peugeot way.

Looking forward to seeing how this one progresses :)

The first target is to get the body patch up work finished, paint it into a single color, put it together and get it MOTd. It will look a bit rough at this point put at least I could drive with it. What’s still left to do:

-Rear brakes aren’t assembled
-Cold start cable is missing
-Fix the driver’s seat
-Wiring loom is in a plastic bag
-Add some steel to the passenger compartment
-Attach headlights and big pile of missing screws to the body pieces
-Clutch is stuck (the former owner promised to bring a special tool to release it)

Cool! It’s important to get it driving I feel. I’ve gone the other way and gone for a bit of a full-on restoration/modification with my Spitfire and it’s a long slog without much positive reinforcement at times.

Definitely a good idea to get it driving, then make it nice :)

As the clutch is stuck, do you know if it runs?

The clutch is stuck in the open position so I was able to run it. The electrical system currently consists of one wire going to the starter solenoid and one that goes to the coil. I was able to start it with one hand operating the “electrical system” and the other turning the carburetor linkages.

I decided to postpone further running until I’ll get proper exhaust ventilation. The exhaust fumes escaped from the garage and the whole house did smell quite badly for the rest of the day.

The deal also included an engine from a 304 S that has a weird twin barrel carburetor and a lot better looking exhaust manifold. I’ll swap those in if the original engine decides to retire.

Great to see somebody here working on a 204! One of my favorite classic Peugeots, along with the 304 and 504 (surprise surprise!) :D

I think the 204 has been overshadowed by the 504 in the classic car community, so it’s nice to see somebody saving one! :)

In Finland 403 is the only classic Peugeot that is left in semi large numbers. You will see those in most gatherings (for European cars). Several of my friends have those. Actually they have the whole family (Berline, Cabriolet, Break and pickup).

404 is also quite well presented. But 504s are pretty much gone as most of them have found their way to Africa. Coupe and Cabriolet models might actually be more common here now. 505 is also very rare spotting now.

204 and 304 didn’t last very well in Finnish winter so you don’t see much of these anymore. I don’t even remember when was the last time that I saw one of these outside the gatherings. But if you see old photos you can see that they used to be very common here. 305 is a bit too new for gatherings so those you don’t anywhere.
